Manto Tshabalala-Msimang
Manto Tshabalala-Msimang was born October 9th 1940 in Present day South Africa. As a child she was very smart excelling in most of her classes which lead to her becoming a Doctor and a polarizing figure in African history. Manto was a memeber of Thabo Mbeki's elected officials and became the official Health minister of South Africa in 1999. During the AIDS epidemic Manto prescribed the entire nation of South Africa to feast on Lemons, Beetroots and Garlic to avoid and cure AIDS claiming that you only needed to eat vegetables to cure AIDS ( disregarding the fact Lemons are a member of the fruit famil y). She was very criticized by Western pundits who argued that she was "preying on vulnerable public" and her lack of plans to eradicate AIDS from South Africa and how slow it took to create a viable plan to. Despite the many criticisms Manto was re-elected in 2004 and served until she died on December 16th, 2009.
"I can't stop working. The health of the nation depends on it."
"beetroot, garlic, lemon ... and buy a bottle of olive oil. All these things are very critical."
